GLAND TRAVERSE ICE YACHT CLUB - RACING RULES 1993
1. Individual skippers are responsible for their craft, and for determining if conditions are safe for racing. Individual skippers are also responsible to be certain their craft is within the class rules. In addition, it is ultimately the skippers responsibility to find out when, and where races will be held, from the race committee.
2. Racing that counts for the Season Championship may only take place on Saturdays and Sundays, that are not holidays. i.e., Christmas and New years day.
3. Racing will begin no earlier than 11:00 a.m., unless the race chairman determines that conditions warrant starting earlier. In this case, the race chairman must communicate the starting time at least 12 hours in advance.
4. A race day will be no more than 5 races. No race may begin after 4:00 P.M.
5. The DN class must have 5 members (in good standing) in any DN‑60 class yacht they wish, to begin a race day. After completing 3 races with 5 Members, a race day may be completed with no fewer than 3 members.
6. The Sprinter class must have 3 members (in good standing) to start a race day.
7. A 3/4 point will be awarded for 1st place. 1-3/4 points will be awarded for 2nd place. 3 points will be awarded for 3d place. 4 points will be awarded for 4th place and so on. The fleet (for that race) +1 will be awarded DNF. The largest fleet of the day +2 for DNS
8. 70% of each skippers finishes (rounded down) will be counted for the season championship.
9. Racing in the G.T.I.Y.C. spring regatta will not count for the season championship.
10. For DN's the weekend of the North Americans and Worlds will be a lay weekend. If the G.T.I.Y.C. has no representatives, racing will be at the discretion of the race chairman.
12. Changing equipment (hull, mast, plank, sail, rigging,) cannot take place after a skipper has started a race day unless a breakage or failure has occurred and then only with the permission of the race chairman. The use of 9 runners per race day is permissible.
13. Protests: Intention of protest must be reported to the Race Chairman immediately after the race. A written protest must be filed with the Race Chairman within one hour of the finish of the race.
Protests will be heard in this order by:
1. An impartial protest committee of G.T.I.Y.C. MEMBERS.
Appeals involving solely the interpretations of the racing rules may be taken to the National Iceboat Authority.
