PART I

CONSTITUTION ‑ BY‑LAWS

ARTICLE I

Name

The club shall be known and designated as the Grand Traverse Ice Yacht Club.

ARTICLE II

Object of the Club

The object of this club shall be to encourage ice yachting, to pro­mote social interests and good fellowship of all persons and to promote skill in sailing under uniform rules governed by the Grand Traverse Ice Yacht Club.

ARTICLE III

General Requirements

Section ‑ 1 ‑ Class of Membership

There shall be five classes of membership ‑ active senior, active junior, non‑active senior, honorary and perpetual. Definitions of each is as follows:

(a) Active Senior ‑ One who pays dues after obtaining age seventeen, actively participates in functions sponsored by the Grand Traverse Ice 	Yacht Club. He or she may vote, hold office, or act on committee.

(b) Active Junior ‑ Until he or she reaches age seventeen, he or she will be exempt from paying dues, actively participates in junior class sponsored by the Grand Traverse Ice Yacht Club. He or she may vote, hold office, or act on committee.

(c) Non‑active Senior ‑ One who does not pay dues and does not race, but wishes to participate in all other functions. He or she may be reinstated anytime as an active senior by paying dues.

 	(d) Honorary ‑ Shall consist of benefactors of club. He or she
may not vote, hold office, act on committee, or pay dues.

(e) Perpetual ‑ Shall consist of benefactors of club who are deceased.

Section ‑ 2 ‑ Application for Membership

May be made to any member or officer of the Grand Traverse Ice Yacht Club.

Section ‑ 3 ‑ Suspension and Expulsion

A member may be expelled for cause by a two‑thirds vote of the active senior, non‑active senior and junior membership.

Section ‑ 4 ‑ Membership Cards

Signed by the Treasurer and delivered to each member annually upon payment of dues. The membership card shall have type of membership noted thereon.

ARTICLE IV

Meetings

Section ‑ 1 ‑ Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting should be held if possible, not later than two weeks after election of officers meeting, which should be held no later than one week after the last official weekend of racing of the season is held.

Section ‑ 2 ‑ Regular Meetings

All regular meetings are to be held on the first Tuesday night of the month, starting with October at 8:00 p.m. The first meeting in the Fall of any racing season will be devoted to proposing amendments to the Constitution‑By‑Laws for the present season and discussing same, which are to be voted on at second meeting in Fall and cannot be changed during this season. Meetings are to be hosted by members on a voluntary basis.

Section ‑ 3 ‑ Quorum

All members present at any meeting will constitute a quorum to transact club business.

Section ‑ 4 ‑ Order of Business

Shall be as follows:

. Roll Call of members in good standing.

2. Reading of minutes of preceeding meeting.

Section ‑ 3 ‑ Voting

Shall be done by secret ballot for all offices of cases involving suspension and expulsion in club.





ARTICLE VI

Committees

Section ‑ 1 ‑ Executive Committee

Shall be composed of the officers of the club and shall hear appeals and sit in judgement on all questions and decisions unable to be obtained through the regular committee's assigned to such and shall submit the final interpretation on Constitution, By‑Laws and Deeds of Gifts. They may transact urgent business for the club. They shall act as trustees for all club property.

Section ‑ 2 ‑ Special Committees

Shall be composed of three members, a chairman appointed by the Commodore and two appointed by the Chairman. They shall function only until their special duty is completed.

ARTICLE VII

Dues

The amount of dues for active membership shall be decided each year at first meeting in fall and may be paid on or before November 1st and will then run to October 31st of next year.

BEAM WIND TROPHIES

I. 	Schantz Beam Wind Trophy Season Championship Series for both DN Class Ice Yachts and Sprinter Class Ice Yachts.
II. 	Beam Wind Races are to be scheduled by race committee.

III.	The scoring system for this series is to be straight Horse Race. (The yacht that wins most firsts wins.)

IV. Course Dimensions and Rules

A. Marks will be set approximately a mile apart at 90° to the wind.

B. Yachts will start 80° to the course and a Beam Wind starting position shall be according to number drawn before each race each day.

C. Finish line will be 90° to the course.

D. Right‑of‑way Rules shall be as follows:

1. Inside yacht as to the course, shall have right‑of‑way over all yachts regardless of tack. This rule is progressive as such, #1 has right‑of‑way over #2, #2 has right‑of‑way over #3, etc.

2. Any yacht may be passed at any time on either side so far as it does not cross the center line of the course. (This constitutes a foul.)

3. A yacht may consider it has been passed when such time occurs that the over‑taking yacht may pull directly in front of the overtaken, without causing said yacht to alter its course to avoid a collision. At this time, the overtaken yacht must relinquish its position and yield right‑of‑way accordingly.

E. Course Rules and Regulations to be enforced by the Grand Traverse Ice Yacht Club Race
    Committee.

F. There are to be a minimum of four laps but not more than six laps in each race to constitute a 
     heat.

V. Trophies are to be returned to the Club prior to the awards meeting so that engraving can be 
     completed and paid for by the Club.

 

GLAND TRAVERSE ICE YACHT CLUB - RACING RULES 1993

 

1.              Individual skippers are responsible for their craft, and for determining if conditions are safe for racing. Individual skippers are also responsible to be certain their craft is within the class rules. In addition, it is ultimately the skippers responsibility to find out when, and where races will be held, from the race committee.

 

2.              Racing that counts for the Season Championship may only take place on Saturdays and Sundays, that are not holidays. i.e., Christmas and New years day.

 

3.              Racing will begin no earlier than 11:00 a.m., unless the race chairman determines that conditions warrant starting earlier. In this case, the race chairman must communicate the starting time at least 12 hours in advance.

 

4.              A race day will be no more than 5 races.         No race may begin after 4:00 P.M.

 

5. The DN class must have 5 members (in good standing) in any DN‑60 class yacht they wish, to begin a race day. After completing 3 races with 5 Members, a race day may be completed with no fewer than 3 members.

 

6.              The Sprinter class must have 3 members (in good standing) to start a race day.

 

7.              A 3/4 point will be awarded for 1st place.

                 1-3/4 points will be awarded for 2nd place.

                 3 points will be awarded for 3d place.

                 4 points will be awarded for 4th place and so on.

                 The fleet (for that race) +1 will be awarded DNF.

                 The largest fleet of the day +2 for DNS

 

8.              70% of each skippers finishes (rounded down) will be counted for the season championship.

 

9.              Racing in the G.T.I.Y.C. spring regatta will not count for the season championship.

 

10.            For DN's the weekend of the North Americans and Worlds will be a lay weekend. If the G.T.I.Y.C. has no representatives, racing will be at the discretion of the race chairman.

 

12.            Changing equipment (hull, mast, plank, sail, rigging,) cannot take place after a skipper has started a race day unless a breakage or failure has occurred and then only with the permission of the race chairman. The use of 9 runners per race day is permissible.

 

13.            Protests:  Intention of protest must be reported to the Race Chairman immediately after the race. A written protest must be filed with the Race Chairman within one hour of the finish of the race.

 

Protests will be heard in this order by:

 

1. An impartial protest committee of G.T.I.Y.C. MEMBERS.

 

Appeals involving solely the interpretations of the racing rules may be taken to the National Iceboat Authority.
